POSITION SUMMARY:
The Director of Philanthropy leads the grant, fund development, and strategic partnership cultivation and execution for the YMCA Alliance of Northern New England, which supports the 25 independent YMCAs across Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont. This position also performs critical administrative duties to support grants management and special events. The principle objectives are as follows:
- Strategic partnerships to support statewide and/or regional YMCA initiatives.
- Coordinate all fund development activities and project deliverables, including prospect research, application processes, implementation at local YMCAs, communication with funders, and data collection and reporting.
- Coordinate Alliance events and meetings that support partnership development, strategic initiatives and the Alliance’s strategic plan.
SERVICE STATEMENT:
There are 25 YMCAs with programs in more than 100 locations across Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont. Together, the Northern New England Ys serve more than 250,000 people each year. The Alliance’s mission is to support collaboration amongst the states’ Ys and community partners to increase our impact and advocate for positive change in our communities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Develop strategic and intentional partnerships that help the Alliance advance its mission and meet its goals.
- Lead and execute the Alliance’s fund development strategy, which includes: research grant opportunities; develop proposals and budgets; and coordinate project implementation with local YMCAs. Typical grant amounts start at $50,000 and range up over $1,000,000.
- Coordinate data collection and reporting, budgeting and invoicing with local YMCAs and funders (utilizing grants management software Submittable).
- Provide technical assistance to local YMCAs to ensure compliance with grant deliverables.
- Coordinate Alliance events and meetings that support partnership development and/or strategic initiatives. This includes the annual Northern New England Leadership Conference, which draws about 200 YMCA staff and volunteers from the region.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES (QUALIFICATIONS):
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent preferred.
- 10 or more years of experience successfully applying for and managing grants and strategic partnerships, preferably in a nonprofit setting.
- Strong familiarity with the YMCA; previous experience working in a local YMCA, YMCA Alliance, or YMCA of the USA preferred.
- Strong strategic thinker that is adept at prioritizing and seeing complex projects with diverse stakeholders to fruition.
- Ability to thrive on a small team that moves at a fast pace.
- Ability to work with integrity, discretion and a professional presentation and approach.
- Prefer knowledge of and previous experience working with diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical and mental ability, sexual orientation, etc.).
- Valid driver’s license, and willingness to travel throughout Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont to attend meetings and conferences.
- Willingness to travel to out-of-state meetings and conferences as needed.
- Flexibility with days and hours as needed to attend certain events and activities.
Physical Demands:
1. Ability to lift 20 pounds.
2. Ability to work at computer for long amounts of time.
Travel:
This position requires some travel throughout the states of Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont, as well as limited national travel (no more than 1-2 times per year).
Location:
Alliance staff work remotely.
Salary and Benefits:
Position is full-time, exempt. $75,000 – $90,000, depending on experience and credentials. The Alliance provides a generous benefits package, including health, vision and dental insurance; paid time off; and 12% retirement savings benefit, once eligibility requirements are met.
