Alliance Announces Inaugural Northern New England YMCA Leadership Academy Class
June 2024 – The Leadership Academy is a unique professional development opportunity for rising stars in the YMCA movement to sharpen their leadership skills in preparation for taking their careers to new levels. This small-group, cohort-based program uses a blended learning approach over nine months with web-based interactive sessions, peer group projects, individual learning plans, and two overnight in-person sessions.

YMCA Supports Veterans Through Free Membership Program
May 30, 2024 – Boothbay Register, article by Candi Joneth, News Contributor. A first-of-its-kind program in the U.S., the YMCA Veterans Membership Program provides free access to YMCA programs and facilities to qualifying Maine veterans across the state. As of this April, 310 veterans are enrolled in the program statewide and the program has a waiting list for new enrollments.

Alliance Offers Free Mental Health Awareness Trainings with the Sweetser Training Institute for Maine YMCAs
May 1, 2024 – The YMCA Alliance of Northern New England is pleased to announce a partnership with the Sweetser Training Institute to offer free mental health training for YMCA staff in Maine this spring. On April 26, 12 YMCA staff from four YMCA Associations gathered at the Boothbay Region YMCA for the first Youth Mental Health First Aid Training of the spring series.

1,700 YMCA Staff and Members Attend YMCA Day at Fenway Park
April 18, 2024 – The YMCA Alliance of Northern New England joined with its neighboring YMCA Alliances in Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island to hold YMCA Day at Fenway Park in partnership with the Boston Red Sox on April 18. More than 1,700 YMCA staff, members and program participants from across New England joined the fun as the Red Sox took on the Cleveland Guardians.

Old Town-Orono YMCA names Scott Wilcox as New CEO
December 18, 2023 – The Old Town/Orono YMCA has named Scott Wilcox as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective December 18, 2023. Selected by the Y’s CEO Search Committee following a 5-month search, Wilcox will succeed Deb Boyd, who will officially step down on December 31, 2023.

Tadokah YMCA Announces Chris Burke as New Executive Director & CEO
November 16, 2023 – The Takodah YMCA announced today that Chris Burke will serve as the new Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer, effective January 1, 2024. He will succeed Jim Doremus who has served as Interim Executive Director & CEO since October, 2022.
