Keene Family YMCA Names Christy Sterbenz Filby as New Chief Executive Officer

KEENE, N.H. – The CEO Search Committee and the Board of Directors at the Keene Family YMCA announced the selection of Christy Sterbenz Filby of East Moline, IL, as incoming CEO, effective June 2, 2025. Sterbenz Filby succeeds Dan Smith, who stepped down in November 2024 to lead the Greater Burlington YMCA.
A dynamic leader with 28 years in the YMCA movement, Sterbenz Filby brings expertise in nonprofit leadership, public policy, and community development. She has been instrumental in securing funding, driving impactful policy reforms, and fostering collaborations that enhance community well-being.
Since 2017, Sterbenz Filby has led public policy initiatives and strategic collaborations for the Illinois State Alliance of YMCAs, supporting 114 Y locations serving over 1.1 million residents. Under her leadership, the Alliance expanded funding, strengthened partnerships, and secured major legislative advancements benefiting youth development, health equity, and social impact initiatives.
Her YMCA journey includes leadership roles at the Wenatchee Valley YMCA, Two Rivers YMCA, and Scott County YMCA, as well as consulting for the Community Initiatives Network. A dedicated mentor and advocate, she has worked extensively in coalition building, grant funding, and legislative advocacy. Sterbenz Filby holds a master’s in public administration from Drake University and is a YMCA Organizational Leader.
