Dr. Rebecca Stanfield McCown – Chief Executive Officer

Prior to joining the Northern New England Alliance, Rebecca spent 16 years with the National Park Service (NPS), most recently as Director of the NPS Stewardship Institute. At the Institute, she supported park staff and partners nationwide through innovative public land management strategies. Her work focused on building partnerships, fostering inclusive community engagement, and equipping public service leaders with tools to adapt and thrive.
From 2023 to 2025, Rebecca served as Director for Environmental Justice Public Engagement at the White House Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ). In this role, she oversaw the public engagement portfolio for the White House Office of Environmental Justice, including community gatherings, stakeholder meetings, public speaking events, and a White House Summit.
Rebecca holds a BS in Natural Resources Recreation and Tourism from Colorado State University and both an MS and PhD in Natural Resources from the University of Vermont. She lives in Lebanon, NH, with her husband, a fellow YMCA camp staff alumnus, and their teenage son, a current YMCA camper. A lifelong YMCA camper, Rebecca has attended YMCA family camp since she was a baby and returns every summer for Week 8 with her entire family.

Katie brings more than 20 years of progressive leadership experience in the YMCA movement to the Northern New England Alliance. She has a deep commitment to advancing the Y’s mission through organizational growth, program innovation, and community impact. Most recently, Katie served as Executive Director of Member experience at the YMCA of Greater Nashua, where she led membership and operations for the Association. She is a native of Maine and graduate from the University of Maine (Orono) with a B.S. in Business Administration.
Katie lives in New Hampshire with her husband, two children, and golden retriever. She and her family love to travel and spend most weekends at a soccer field!
